The Journey Design

From eighteen yurts on the shore of Lake Toro to a hacienda among the vines of the Rosario Valley, ten days down the length of Chile and back up again.

What follows is a long country taken in three pieces, and the middle piece is the reason for the other two. One night in Santiago first, in the residential quiet of Vitacura rather than the financial district, because a flight lands late and the Andes are better met in the morning. Then south, and the scale changes completely. Three nights at Patagonia Camp on Lake Toro, where all eighteen domes face the granite towers directly, and two full days with nothing scheduled in them. Three more at Estancia Cerro Guido, a working cattle ranch on a hundred thousand hectares of steppe on the park's edge. The week ends where it began, almost. A flight back to Santiago on day eight, then out to the Casablanca hills for two nights at a working organic wine estate, which is a deliberate landing rather than an afterthought.

The days in Torres del Paine are yours to shape, and both properties are built to be shaped. Patagonia Camp runs private and shared excursion programs at a range of difficulty, so a hard day on the trail and an easy morning by the lake are equally available. The estancia offers horseback riding in the Sierra Baguales, trekking on Cerro Guido, fly fishing, and a four-wheel-drive run to the Argentine border. At Matetic the vineyard tours are private and the cellar is part of the working estate, not a showroom. Transfers are handled at both ends of every flight, with a driver waiting in the arrivals hall. Should the wind come off the cordillera hard enough to keep you inside, or the light on Lake Toro hold long enough to be worth staying out for, the schedule was built expecting it.

Arrive in Santiago

Day 01 of 10
Santiago arrives before the city does — the Andes sharp against the sky as you clear the terminal. Vitacura receives you quietly: Avenida Vitacura's residential calm a world removed from the financial towers of Las Condes, the pace already slower, the afternoon yours to settle into.

Torres del Paine

Located on the Chilean side of the southern Patagonia border, Torres del Paine encompasses a scenically spectacular 1,812 km2 (700 mi2) biosphere of glacier-chiseled mountain ranges, protected forests, electric blue lagoons and lakes, and rolling pampas. Deemed the eighth wonder of the world, the scenery is as unpredictable as the weather. This is home to the famous Base of the Towers hike, amidst vast uninhabited landscapes of lakes, lagoons, and the Grey Glacier part of the southern Patagonia ice field.

Each dome faces the granite towers and the lake directly, making the landscape the defining feature of every stay. The all-inclusive structure and resident guide team mean guests spend their time in the park rather than planning logistics — a meaningful distinction in a region where access and expertise are everything.

Torres del Paine

Days 03–04 of 10
After yesterday's arrivals and logistics, the day opens with no agenda but the landscape itself — the granite towers, the lakes, the wind off the cordillera. Patagonia, given freely, on its own terms.

Estancia Cerro Guido is a working Patagonian cattle ranch converted into a high-end lodge, sitting on private land adjacent to Torres del Paine National Park in Chilean Patagonia. The property delivers the raw scale of the pampas — wind-scoured grasslands, granite towers on the horizon — with the warmth of a family-run estancia. Unlike lodges inside the park, Cerro Guido offers private land access and genuine ranch life alongside the trekking, giving guests a layered Patagonian experience that goes well beyond the trail.

Estancia Cerro Guido

Day 06 of 10
By the second day, the estancia's scale has stopped surprising you and started asking something of you. A hundred thousand hectares of Patagonian steppe and cordillera press in at every window, the Torres rising in the distance — not backdrop but presence — and the land itself becomes the day's itinerary.

Casablanca Valley

Day 08 of 10
The Patagonian steppe gives way to altitude, then to the long Central Valley unrolling below — a different country in almost every sense, measured in latitude and vine rows rather than granite and wind. By evening you are ninety minutes from Santiago, somewhere between the capital and the Pacific coast, in wine country.

La Casona at Matetic Vineyards is a hacienda-style estate retreat set within a working organic wine estate in the Rosario Valley, roughly an hour from Santiago and close to the Casablanca wine corridor. The property offers an immersive wine country experience rooted in the rhythms of the land — harvest, cellar, table. Few wine estate stays in Chile offer this level of integration between viticulture and hospitality; guests sleep, eat, and drink entirely within one of the country's most respected organic wine operations.

Casablanca Valley

Day 09 of 10
The valley moves at its own pace — cool mornings, the low scrub of the coastal range, rows of vines that have been worked by hand long enough to know the difference. After yesterday's transit, this second day asks nothing of you but attention.
