On a classic sightseeing tour of the city, you’ll explore Stockholm’s most revered neighborhoods and discover the unique landmarks nestled within.

Wander through the picturesque Old City, Gamla Stan, a cluster of well-preserved medieval buildings and the site of Stockholm’s inception in 1252. There’s so much spectacular scenery within this natural haven, filled with wildlife and an unending serenity. Trek by foot through designated trails or travel off the beaten path to get the most out of your experience with Swedish nature.

During your hiking adventure, you can spot pretty harbors, traditional red wooden houses, historic homesteads, as well as plenty of resident animals. Moose, roe deer, fallow deer, and red foxes inhabit the larger islands, grazing in fields or scurrying through pine-clad forests.

The Latin Quarter around Fiolstræde rewards an unhurried morning on foot — the street runs through a stretch of Copenhagen that has been booksellers' and students' territory since the eighteenth century, and the density of independent shops, including the long-established Thiemers Magasin for maps and travel literature, makes it easy to lose an hour before the city fully wakes. If the afternoon calls for something quieter, the Designmuseum Danmark on Bredgade holds a permanent collection of Danish industrial and furniture design that earns its reputation without asking much of you — an hour there before heading toward Bobe for the evening sits well.

Ålesund is the adventure capital of the fjords, where towering Art Nouveau architecture and pastel buildings contrast the deep green hills that spread toward the horizon. The city itself is a fairytale archipelago, connected by bridges and tunnels that fuse the mainland and surrounding island towns into one modern community.

It was through the Icelandic Sagas where the name of Ålesund first appeared in history, and archeological finds have shown that humans have lived within the town’s present area for around 9,000 years, though it looks like such a young place now. In fact, the original fishing village burnt to the ground in 1904, and the decision was made to rebuild it entirely in the avant-garde style of Art Nouveau, raising the city like a phoenix from the ashes.

As an area so deeply rooted around the fjord landscapes; it’s easy to see how Vikings sailed their way to a place of such ideal beauty. Ålesund embraces the name “Pearl of Art Nouveau,” emerging with decorative buildings adorned with towers, turrets, and imaginative ornaments—an ode to the city’s Viking roots. As you walk along the main shopping street of Kongens Gate, each feature and detail of the architecture comes within full view, presenting a magical atmosphere when set against verdant hillsides and seaside rhythms.

Pass by cultural heritage museums preserving the region’s history and glimpse the reconstructions of granite churches once lost to fire. As one of the most beautiful places in Norway according to Times Magazine, there are, of course, fascinating viewpoints from which you can find inspiration in the landscape. Its 30 rooms and suites are spread across four timber buildings built in the traditional lafta style, facing the forest or the fjord and the Sunnmøre Alps. Art and antiques fill the log-walled interiors. The Dining Room serves seasonal, regional cooking from an open kitchen beside the fire, and on Fridays the Boathouse hosts a set dinner at the water's edge.
